The California Mid-State Fair is now accepting applications for its 2026 “Friends of the Fair” volunteer program, inviting community members of all ages to help bring this summer’s biggest celebration to life.
"Friends of the Fair" is the California Mid-State Fair's volunteer organization. Established in 1995, the Friends of the Fair is a group of community members that range in age from 5-95 and volunteer in many different places prior, during and after the Fair.
From welcoming guests and assisting in exhibit buildings to supporting agriculture, decorating spaces, and helping behind the scenes, Friends of the Fair volunteers play an important role in creating the experience thousands of Fairgoers enjoy each year.
Volunteers who complete at least 10 hours of service — including one pre-Fair or workday shift and one shift during the Fair — will receive a 2026 Season Pass. Volunteer opportunities are flexible, with daytime, evening, weekday, and weekend shifts available.
“Friends of the Fair started as a way for our family to earn season passes and volunteer together, but it quickly became something we now define our summers by,” said 2025 Friends of the Fair Volunteer of the Year Luanne Kneeskern. “What keeps us coming back year after year is the sense of community, the memories we make, and the opportunity to serve Fairgoers alongside incredible volunteers. Summer 2026 will be our family’s eighth year volunteering, and we can’t imagine a summer without it.”

Volunteer opportunities are available in a variety of areas including Information Booths, Home Arts & Crafts, Floriculture, Livestock, Visual Arts, Industrial Education, and more.
